FREE ASHTANGA YOGA FOR BEGINNERS CLASS

FREE INTRODUCTION TO ASHTANGA YOGA CLASS

SATURDAY 18TH APRIL, 8:45AM, WITH DEGY

We are pleased to announce that Yoga Mama will be offering a free introductory ashtanga yoga class at The Putney Clinic of Physical Therapy on Saturday 18 April, 8.45am. The class will be led by Degy is designed for beginners and is a precursor for a 4-week beginners ashtanga yoga course that will commence on Saturday 25 April. Please note, it is unsuitable for pregnant women.

ABOUT ASHTANGA YOGA

The beginner course will teach you the grounding elements of Ashtanga Yoga. You will learn the main principles of this method, which are linking breath and movement. You will be taught the Surya namaska sequence and introduced to the standing postures. This particular method of yoga is ultimately practiced in what is called "Mysore style", where you move through the sequence at your own pace, in what becomes like a moving meditation. It is both dynamic and relaxing at the same time.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Degy was introduced to the ashtanga yoga method here at The Putney Clinic by Cherie Lathey. She has gone on to train and study with internationally renowned ashtanga yoga teacher John Scott and has practised with a number of senior teachers including Nancy Gilgoff and Sri Sharath Jois.

BOOKINGS

If you would like to sign up for this free introduction to ashtanga yoga class, call us on 020 8789 3881 or drop us an email to info@putneyclinic.co.uk.

PHOTOGRAPHY: SUNSET IN WEST LONDON

This week, the sunsets in west London have been pretty spectacular. The red and yellow skies look like something from another world.

PHOTOGRAPHY: POSING PEACOCKS

The finest looking residents of Holland Park are undoubtedly the peacocks, which roam freely around the park. The males, as in most species of animals, are only too keen to show off.

PHOTOGRAPHY: MC SQUIRREL

I'll have a McSquirrel, please! So many questions come to mind after seeing this... Are squirrels omnivores? Are they aware of the risks of eating junk food? Can they contract BSE? Funny really, as I would have thought it would be more likely to see a squirrel on the menu at McDonalds and not the other way round.

PHOTOGRAPHY: FROGS

It must be spring already... The frogs of Holland Park have come out to play and, yes, that is a euphemism. They have overtaken the pond that surrounds the statue of Lord Holland and - as of yesterday - they were fornicating and spawning frantically. The exertions were too much for some, as you can see in the last photo.

Trafalgar Square looks better in black and white... And preferably without pigeons.

PHOTOGRAPHY: FOURTH PLINTH

There is a new resident on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. A sculpture of a skeletal horse by Hans Haacke has replaced the blue cockerel which stood there previously. Probably not to all tastes, but what I don't understand is why the horse comes complete with an electronic ticker of share prices.
